When a political party needs PR newswire for press, we’re all in trouble.
I searched “Waxman + hearings + Freddie,” hoping Henry Waxman might call hearings on the Fannie and Freddie Meltdowns that Ate the World. Republicans want those hearings, and so would any sane voter, but so far there’s no word that Democrat Waxman has the balls to schedule them before the election. Maybe Barney Frank needs time for a makeover. The media are all over it.

How will Barney Frank preside and testify at the same time?
More audacity, this time from Pelosi. I guess he’ll have to be a real maestro to hold hearings in which people don’t wonder why he’s not a witness. Don’t get me wrong, I hope every sleazebag pays, including Wall Street sleaze. As Biden noted last night in one of his stronger moments, you have to know the cause of a problem before you can correct it. But there’s hasn’t been a single word about Acorn and the corruption of the noble but nearly fatal Community Reinvestment Act. You can’t “make housing affordable” by making riskier loans, obviously. Although, we have to admit, housing’s a lot more affordable now, isn’t it? So the value of our personal property is down and responsibility for the debt of others is up. If that’s what we have before an Obama presidency, I guess I’d better start rehearsing that Obama hymn. Oh, wait, there’s another.
