Squirrel Wars update.
After action report: K9 unit Speckles cornered an enemy combatant behind the standalone Goof Housekeeping House reel. Combatant clung to the rear portion of the reel where it enjoyed enough room to maneuver to achieve a standoff situation.
A field decision was made to allow the combatant to escape since the confrontation was outside the Green zone. We restrained K9 Unit speckles by the neck scruff while we waited several minutes for the combatant to realize he could escape. First he clung to the brick foundation of our living structure. Then he ran straight for a structural corner where an addition was shoddily attached to the main house.
Combatant disappeared under the vinyl siding, revealing a secondary Known Point of Entry (KPE) or at least a Demonstrated Point of Escape (DPE.)
Retired and visually impaired K9 Unit Shadow yesterday clawed and whined at an interior hallway wall near the DPE/KPE, exhibiting a remarkable degree of activity and alertness for a soldier of his years.
Today we will neutralize the DPE/KPE with steel wool and hardware cloth.
K9 Unit Speckles exhibits no morale deficiencies as a result of her truncated combat encounter. She is being considered for commendation and a new collar. Shadow, though impaired, demonstrates an insistence to contribute to defense of the homeland and has been promoted to Furbeast in Charge of Veteran Affairs.
