New Tune oozes toward completion: “That Would Explain Everything.”
Here’s the current status of the most recent tune, tentatively titled “That Would Explain Everything” because the lyrics were vaguely inspired by this video of Keifer Sutherland leaping into a Christmas tree. (Updated and cleaned up some Wednesday evening.)
Please listen with the usual caveats in mind. Very rough mix. Will probably resing, maybe retrack a few things etc. The lyrics might also get a good buffing. But here they are, in case you can’t make them out.
I wonder if I’ll still like this song tomorrow.
Strange process with this one. After the tune and the pirate element, I imagined a story — Jack Bauer waiting at a cabin for a duplicitous ex-lover/operative to come take him out, and him just sitting on a dock by a lake wondering if it’s worth preventing. Surely Jack Bauer gets moody now and then. I mean, I’d get moody if I hadn’t gone to the bathroom in four years.
As a production note, you might notice this song has a lot of P’s in it, which pop unpleasantly. Remember a few posts back when I mentioned that I fixed a mic by disassembling and reassembling it? Well it unfixed itself, and when I learned that, I was too impatient and pissed to put the other mic on the stand behind the pop filter. So I’ll fix that next time around, along with the other things that need fixing.
Silver moon
a mood so blue
I’m too happy
drinking for two
Wish I were a pirate
instead of a spy
Wish it weren’t so easy
to live this lie
I’m okay
I’m doing all right
I hope you’re happy
I hope you’re happy
Unforgiven
strangers to shame
Those parts of us
went up in flames
A passport and gun
but no will to run
The laid back man’s last stand
intrigue and love
go unspoken of
in the the laid back man’s lost land
A constellation
an anxious star
we’ve gone nowhere
to have spun so far
A casualty
in world war you
left me with nothing
but this mood so blue
I’m okay
I’m doing all right
I hope you’re happy
I hope you’re happy
Unrepentant
No one to blame
just the price you pay
it’s a dirty game
A passport and gun
but no will to run
The laid back man’s last stand
intrigue and love
go unspoken of
The laid back man’s lost land

Love it. I wish I was a pirate too.
Wow, that’s two thumbs up — one from a Sister Unit and one from the number-one Sandwich blog fan. I’ll take it. You know, I think someone should start a pirate fantasy camp. I mean, if they have renaissance festivals, why not pirates?
