It’s just this simple, Mr. Waxman. If you want voters to be fully informed November 4th, you will hold hearings on Fannie and Freddie, the “toxic twins,” as soon as possible, before the grilling of the Wall Street sleaze, if necessary. You know why? Because we don’t elect the Wall Street sleaze. You might have heard there’s an election coming up. Any thoughtful voter would want to know which party brought this down on us so we don’t elect their candidate to repeat the nearly fatal errors we’ve endured — and will endure for untold years.
And if you don’t hold hearings on Fannie and Freddie and pinpoint the causes before voters head for the polls, we might think you don’t want an informed electorate. That’s something we’d rather not believe, Mr. Waxman.
